New Road Policing Centre opens in Hume

13 Jul 2023

The new Road Policing Centre (RPC) in Hume was officially opened on 23 June 2023.

The 6,000-square metre building will provide a state-of-the-art facility to support all Road Policing operations.

The new site gives Road Policing officers immediate access to major roads across Canberra. This will help maintain effective response times in emergencies.

The design and restructure of the warehouse provide the necessary security for an ACT Policing location and the new facilities provide:

  • workshops and laboratories
  • space for vehicle management and training amenities
  • storage space
  • the necessary security enhancements required of an ACTP facility that is fit-for-purpose and aligned with advances in technology.

The new centre also has space for several teams to operate under one roof including:

  • Major Collision Team with space to examine vehicles involved in serious and fatal collisions
  • Road Policing Operations
  • Emergency Management and Planning
  • Radio Technicians who build and maintain police vehicle technology.

This site replaces the Traffic Operations Centre in Belconnen, and is located close to the Monaro Highway, which will allow police to deploy across Canberra quickly and easily.

The new Road Policing Centre is set to become a beacon of excellence in road safety enforcement and management for the Canberran community and ensuring safer roads for all.
